The late Peter Smithwick
The death has taken place of Judge Peter Smithwick (The Old Rectory, Inistioge, Kilkenny).
A former president of the District Court and chairman of the Smithwick Tribunal, he died on March 8. The Kilkenny native was born in 1937 and part of the famous Smithwick’s brewing family that remains an iconic part of Kilkenny.
On his retirement as district court president, he was praised for his integrity and fairness.
He was a devoted husband to Deirdre and dearest father to Thalia and Aoife, dear brother to Judy and loving grandfather to Diarmuid, Oisín, Isabel, Nicky and Marina, sadly missed by his extended family and friends.
Reposing at his home in Inistioge (R95 V562) on Thursday, March 10 from 2pm to 6pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11am in St Mary's Cathedral, Kilkenny with interment afterwards in the grounds of St Canice's Cathedral.
