As motorists are being asked to prepare for hazardous road conditions brought about by extremely cold weather, it's also important to remember the potential impact of low winter sunlight on driver visibility.
Gardaí in Kilkenny have warned drivers to beware of the low winter sun in a recent social media statement.
"You might have it behind you but a motorist's view might be like the one in the picture (see above)."
The number one thing to do if you’re blinded by the sun is to slow down.
When visibility is poor, you have less time to see or react to approaching hazards.
Leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and the one in front.
