The most recent Raven’s Rock Rally has been hailed as a ‘huge success’ and ‘a massive event for the locality’.
Those comments were made by some of the councillors in the Piltown Municipal District, who praised the organisation of the event.
“The rally brought a large amount of revenue to the area and the engagement process with homeowners along the rally route was first class,” said Cllr Ger Frisby.
“One of the roads closed near me and consultation commenced three months in advance. It all went smoothly and efficiently and was a huge success.”
His comments were echoed by Cllr Eamon Aylward, who stated that the engagement from Carrick Motor Club was also great.
“It was a fantastic event and it has been a long long time since stages were held here in South Kilkenny,” he said.
“Of course there was some inconvenience but the good far outweighs the bad.”
As noted by the councillor, South Kilkenny had a huge part to play in this year’s event, and many of the participants used it as a means to pay tribute to Craig Breen, the young Slieverue rally driver who lost his life earlier this year.
Amongst those paying tribute were Mike Chen and Sean Hassett, who competed on behalf of their dear friend Craig Breen and drove a very special car and livery that paid tribute to him.
