Your commute from Kilkenny could become very costly under proposed new 'road usage charge'

Kilkenny motorists will be closely eyeing proposals being put forward aimed at offsetting the loss of government revenue from road and fuel taxes due to the increasing number of electric vehicles hitting the roads.

Distance-based pricing is reported to be one of multiple options currently being explored to offset this loss.

Under such a pricing scheme, it would reportedly cost up to €38 to drive from Maynooth to Dublin and up to €163 to drive from Cork to Dublin.

It must be noted once again that this is only one of many options set to be explored and there are multiple options available.

Details of the plans were revealed recently in a report from the Irish Daily Mail.
