IRELAND is currently in the grip of Storm Gerrit, a powerful weather system that has brought relentless rain to the country.

Over the past few days, Storm Gerrit has unleashed a deluge of rain across various regions of Ireland, causing rivers to swell and waterfalls to overflow.

The east and west of the island have experienced some of the most significant impacts, with several iconic waterfalls showcasing the power and beauty of Ireland's natural landscapes.

Among the notable sites affected is Powerscourt Waterfall in Wicklow, which has seen its cascading waters intensify into a magnificent torrent. Tourists and locals who braved the storm to witness the spectacle have been treated to a rare and awe-inspiring sight as the waterfall roars.

On the downside, the heavy rainfall has led to localised flooding in some regions, prompting emergency services to be on high alert.

Met Éireann predicts that Storm Gerrit will gradually move away from Ireland in the coming days, but the aftermath of heavy rainfall will linger. With a yellow warning in place across the countery, an orange warning bringing strong to gale force westerly winds, is in place for Kerry, Clare, Galway and Cork. Coastal flooding is also likely in these areas.

Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and heed any warnings from local authorities.
