Gardaí have said that they are treating the incident as a tragic accident, and a Family Liaison Officer has been sent to support the family.

A two-year-old girl who was found unresponsive by gardaí in her home in Waterford yesterday evening has died following a tragic accident.

Gardaí in Waterford responded to a call on Wednesday evening in relation to a child found unresponsive in her home in Co. Waterford.

The child was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford, where she was later pronounced deceased.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the gardaí confirmed that a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family of the deceased at this time.

An Garda Síochána added that they are treating this incident as a tragic accident.
