Fire at migrant centre in army camp

All asylum seekers and Defence Forces personnel are safe after a fire at an emergency accommodation centre in Co Wicklow.

A fire broke out in the canteen of the emergency accommodation and reception centre in Kilbride Military Camp.

The blaze prompted a multi-agency response involving An Garda Siochana, the fire brigade and military police responded.

The fire was later extinguished.

The Defence Forces said: “All International Protection applicants and Defence Forces personnel are safe and accounted for.

“A damage assessment and investigation is currently ongoing.”
