'A national embarrassment' - Public reacts to Michael Lowry tribunal controversy

TD Michael Lowry

Following statements from Independent TD Michael Lowry on the ongoing investigation into the findings of the Moriarty Tribunal, the public have been having their say on X/Twitter to the kingmaker continuing to be elected and serving as a key person in government formation talks.

One person on X posted: "There's Michael Lowry on my TV, talking about standing up for principles. Yes, that's the profoundly corrupt Michael Lowry. Principles, my arse. And the TDs surrounding this profoundly corrupt man hardly covering themselves in glory. A national embarrassment."

Another X user said: "Sickening to see the blatant cockiness from Michael Lowry that he godfathered the political partnership and has influenced the programme for government. No pretence, this government will be answerable to a man tainted by financial scandal"

Many X/Twitter users expressed shock, disgust and unease at Lowry's continued involvement in government formation talks.

One person posted: "Michael Lowry, talking bout the importance of standing by your "principles", is the highlight of 25 for me so far but maybe he meant "principal" as in interest on money you get for bunging a mobile phone tendering competition?"

Another said: "All shockingly Sordid, Grubby disgusting & entirely predictable, especially Michael Lowry staying in the Shadows & avoiding any scrutiny as a Minister. The Healy Rae farce was utter nonsense from the outset, they'd argue with their own Shadows"

Another posted: "I feel very uneasy that Michael Lowry has been allowed play such a major part in the formation or the Government in 2025."
