The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued an urgent recall for two popular beauty products sold by two major Irish retailers over "fire and explosion' fears.
Two models of Elgetec’s hair straighteners, the Pro Hair Straighteners Salon Iron Platinum Edition and their Mini Salon Ceramic Travel Hair Straightener, have been pulled from shelves in TK Maxx and Homesense stores across Ireland as the plug and fuse “do not meet required safety standards”, leading to the risk of “fire and explosion”.
The brand of both products is Elgetec. The type/number of models is Mini Salon Ceramic Travel Hair Straightener, with barcode 7426978603198, and the Elgetec Pro Hair Straighteners Salon Iron Platinum Edition, with barcode 7426978603181.

The products were on sale in TK Maxx and Homesense stores between January 2019 and December 2022. There were approximately 250 affected units of each product sold in the Republic of Ireland during this period.
Customers should stop using the product immediately and return it to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund.
