An Garda Siochana have revealed a shocking number of Irish drivers who broke the law while driving on roads ahead of the June Bank Holiday Weekend and plea for drivers to watch out.

"Yesterday, Friday 30th May, over 480 drivers were detected speeding on Irish roads," an Garda Siochana said.

Some of the top detections by gardai that day includes:

- 97km/h in a 50kmh zone on R394 in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath
- 92 km/h in a 60km/h zone on N52 in Kells, Co. Meath
- 117kmh in a 80km/h zone on R265 in St Johnston, Co. Donegal
- 151km/h in a 100km/h zone on N25 in Midleton, Co. Cork

33 fines were also issued to drivers for being on their mobile phones while driving.

Nine fines were issued for seatbelt offences and 22 people were arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving.

"Please slow down, belt up, put the phone away and never ever drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs," gardai said.
