An alarm was raised after a man is understood to have fallen overboard on a ferry and was rescued from the water almost two hours later. His condition is not known at this time

A MAN has been rescued from the Shannon Estuary after falling overboard on the Tarbert to Killimer ferry on Sunday morning, Limerick Live has reported.

He has been airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

A spokesperson for Valentia Coast Guard told RTÉ that the man fell from the ferry shortly after 9am and was recovered two hours later.

His condition is not known at this time.

The Irish Coast Guard was assisted in the search and rescue operation by several units of lifeboats, local yachts and Ballybunion Sea and Cliff Rescue Team.
