Teenager dies after car crashes into ditch in Cork

A teenager has died after the car he was driving crashed into a ditch in Cork on Saturday night.

Gardai said the vehicle left the road and collided with a ditch on Scarteen Lower, Newmarket, after 11.20pm on Saturday.

The male driver was aged in his late teens.

A male passenger, also a teenager, was uninjured.

The body of the male driver has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The road has been closed pending a full forensic collision investigation being carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI).

Gardai are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision to contact them, as well as anyone who has camera footage from that section of road.
