Kilkenny Gardaí hold over 100 checkpoints over St. Patricks Weekend
A high profile garda campaign over the bank holiday weekend which targeted drink and drug driving was highly successful.
Over 100 checkpoints were strategically positioned across the city and county and there were only four arrests.
Divisional traffic inspector for Carlow/Kilkenny, Anthony Farrell said that the message was hitting home and thanked the vast majority of drivers for being compliant.
“There is most definitely improved driver
“This is reflected both in the extremely low level of detection and arrests for persons suspected of driving while out the influence of an intoxicant and the fact that we had no serious injury collisions in the city or county,” he added.

“These figures can be attributed to proactive, high visibility garda checkpoints. We will continue to focus our efforts to reduce fatalities and serious injuries on our roads,” he added.
