Kilkenny Fine Gael Deputy John Paul Phelan has called on his constituents to vote Yes in the fiscal treaty, which will be held next Thursday, May 31.
Deputy Phelan said that good voter turnout would be essential to securing Ireland’s future.
“The ratification of this Treaty will be another important step in the rebuilding of Ireland’s economy and of our international reputation,” he said. “I am encouraging the people of Ireland to take part in this campaign and to ensure that the Treaty is ratified to cement the growing international confidence in Ireland’s recovery.
“This Treaty is an important part of the package needed to stabilise the economic situation in Europe as it provides assurance that the kinds of problems have emerged in Greece, cannot happen again.
“What’s vital for our continued economic stability and recovery is that there are no doubts at home or abroad about Ireland’s willingness to do what it takes to prosper inside the single currency area, and that includes responsible budgeting,” he said.
