The Foróige DRUM Youth Centre, Goods Shed Square, MacDonagh Junction, offers a free and confidential counselling service for adolescents and their families in the Co. Kilkenny area.
Adolescents are regularly presented with problems and questions, and quite often family members are too much part of the problem to be of objective help. This is where The DRUM Counselling Service comes in.
Counselling is a professional service offered by one of our qualified counsellors (one male, one female) working in a therapeutic way with an adolescent son or daughter within an agreed framework of understanding around confidentially formed with a parent(s) or guardian(s).
Should such a young person agree to be a client, they will have certain rights:
To feel totally at ease with the counsellor as s/he provides them with a safe space wherein s/he can safely talk about the losses, stresses, confusion, conflicts and other pain in their lives, with no fear of any collusion between the counsellor and the parents or any other adult in their lives without their permission or unless there is serious issue involving Child Protection. Other than that, there will be no secret chats between counsellor and others around the client’s issues.
The counsellor’s role is to listen in a kind and understanding way to whatever is being told to them, and seek to help with insight to either change what is possible to change in the client’s life or to live more contentedly and creatively with that which is not. Neither of our counsellors will ever criticise nor judge what is told to them. Neither do they offer advice, make diagnosis or give evaluatory reports.
It is important to note that emotional pain (sadness/anger etc) may initially increase after commencement of counselling as some protective barriers are often removed.
All are welcome so why not call Willie Egan on 087 6329622 to make an appointment with Valerie or Mícheál?
