Three generations of James Stephens greats were remembered at a special function in the Larchfield clubrooms.
Members of the Larkin family came together to present the club with a set of three hurls, representing the unique achievement of three generations of the same family in winning senior All-Ireland hurling titles.
Lining out in the famed black and amber, Paddy Larkin won four All-Irelands in 1932, 1933, 1935 and 1939. His son Phil ‘Fan’ won titles in 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1979. Fan’s son Philip won three - capturing the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Sponsored by John Treacy, the hurls were mounted and framed and will hang in the hallway of Pairc Sheamuis Stiophán on the Kells Road. It was interesting to see the distinct difference between the style of hurl used in the 1930s by Paddy when compared to either of those used by Fan or Philip.
Introduced by club chairman, Aodán Ó Ruairc, Michael Moore outlined the significance of this achievement by the Larkin family and acknowledged the contribution of the Larkin family to Kilkenny and James Stephens hurling over that 71 year timespan.
