€8.4 million has been allocated for roadworks projects this year in the Castlecomer Municipal District, covering much of North Kilkenny.
A large amount of capital has been allocated for the N77, with nearly €2 million allocated for pavement improvements and minor works on the road.
Over 70 other minor roadworks projects will be funded in the district, as well as two climate change adaptation projects and five bridge rehabilitation projects.
Local councillor Pat Fitzpatrick has welcomed the funding.
“Projects such as Barrack Hill in Castlecomer have been in the pipeline for years so it’s great to see,” he said.
“The planned works on the N77 and N78 will also make a huge difference and we look forward to their completion.”
