End in sight but thousands still counting the cost of boil water notice in North Kilkenny

End in sight but thousands still counting the cost of boil water notice in North Kilkenny

Hopes are high that a boil water notice will be lifted for good in North Kilkenny ‘in the coming weeks’.

That’s according to local councillor John Brennan, who has been liaising with Irish Water on the issue.

The councillor confirmed that the delivery and commissioning of a containerised treatment unit to address turbidity issues at the local treatment plant is happening this week.

Once the new equipment is fully operational, Irish Water have stated that they will undertake network sampling while continuing to monitor the performance of the plant with a view towards lifting the boil water notice for the region.

Water issues have been impacting over 3,000 customers on the Castlecomer water supply since before Christmas.

This has caused ‘immense inconvenience’ and ‘extra costs’ for local people, according to Cllr Brennan.

“Buying bottled water for so long adds up, it’s not cheap, so too does the electricity costs associated with boiling water at home,” he said.

Until the boil water notice is officially lifted, all customers on this supply are still advised to boil and cool their water before use.

Areas impacted include Moneenroe, Castlecomer, Clogh and various surrounding areas.
