Aontú to run their first Kilkenny candidate in next local election

Aontú to run their first Kilkenny candidate in next local election

Local economist and longtime community and trade union activist, Tom Healy, has been selected to run for Aontú in next year’s local elections in Castlecomer LEA.

Mr Healy is a former Director of NERI (Nevin Economic Research Institute) and is the party’s first ever candidate to stand in the county.

Speaking after his selection, Mr Healy said he was "honoured to have been selected by Aontú, a party whose principles and commitment to true equality and justice for all I passionately believe in."

"It says a lot for Aontú that many people, who may have always been deeply engaged about Politics, but never actually ran for office, are moved to put themselves forward to the public for election."

"I’m running as I truly believe that those on the margins of society need a fearless voice that will give them a platform without fear or favour," he said.

Further funding in the HSE, the building of affordable homes, supports for farmers and improvements to the water supply in the area are amongst the candidates' goals if elected.
