Works are under way to improve the Jenkinstown Woods amenity, following confirmation of funding.
Local councillor Pat Fitzpatrick has welcomed €227,000 for the Jenkintown Woods Enhancement Scheme. The works include rehabilitation of the existing loop walk and creation of a new accessible loop walk around the walled gardens and amenity area.
Age-friendly seating will also be provided and new trailhead and waymaker signs will also be installed along the trails. Work also includes the upgrading of the picnic area beside the amenity space, age-friendly and accessible seating, a new access ramp to provide connectivity to the car park, and general landscaping and signage upgrades.
The funding was secured by Kilkenny County Council under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, with Kilkenny County Council funding 10% of the works.
"I'm delighted as a local public representative to welcome this very important upgrading for what is wonderful amenity in the area," said Cllr Fitzpatrick.
"Again, its great to see the continuous improvements to our walkways and outdoor amenities. It's also fantastic see the new Countryside Park at Dunmore and the Ardra looped walk at the Discovery Park in Castlecomer all being so successful. And now the upgrading of the much-loved Jenkintown Woods in Conahy. This will now make it all the more an enjoyable experience for all who visit ."
