"Good facilities encourage and empower local participation, which builds community spirit and pride. If local facilities are provided to a high standard and properly maintained, they become a local hub and a welcome place for people to gather socially, to play or support local sports and to foster lasting bonds between local people of all ages.
"Facilities provided to a good standard empower people to become involved as volunteers in local activities. The Community Centre Investment Fund is set to become a permanent rolling fund to upgrade, refurbish and build local community centres in keeping with building Codes of Practice."
Nationally, the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, has announced funding of €26.1 million under the 2024 Community Centre Investment Fund.
This will deliver enhancement and refurbishment works on 369 Community Centres nationwide.
In excess of €109 million has already been approved under the fund.
