The late Rosie Goggins RIP
The death occurred recently of Rosie Goggins (née Connors).
Rosie, the daughter of Betty and Gerry Connors, Tinneranny, Rosbercon, grew up in New Ross, where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Goggins from Wexford Town.
Jimmy would ride his bike to New Ross three nights a week to meet with his beloved Rosie. Later on they got married and went to live for a short while in Wexford Town, where they started their family, before moving back to New Ross for a short time.
They then moved to Knockmoylan, where most of her family attended national school.
Rosie started her business life in Mullinavat, Knockmoylan and Ballyhale, a career that lasted for six decades. She made lots of friends when doing her bit of business.
The couple returned to live in the Maudlins in New Ross in the late 1960s, with their children attending Michael Street Boys’ School and St Joseph’s National School, New Ross.
It was in New Ross that Rosie really grew her furniture business. She became an integral part of the community and a life-long friend to many.
Rosie, being very witty, got most of her family working in various jobs in the town of New Ross. Later, as her children grew, they became involved in sports activities including hurling and handball, which continues to the present day.
Rosie and her family continued to live in the Maudlins. After losing her beloved Jimmy in 2016 she enjoyed the company of her family, especially her sister Dolly. Both enjoyed each other’s company, spinning many a yarn.
Rosie stayed active until her health deteriorated in the last year. She received wonderful care and attention from everyone at Northgate Medical Centre, the staff in the Irishtown Pharmacy, New Ross, Medical Six nurses, doctors and staff at Waterford University Hospital, where she passed away in her 92nd year.
The high esteem in which Rosie was held was evident during her funeral by the very large crowds that attended the funeral home, funeral mass and burial.
Predeceased by her six brothers and two sisters, Rosie is survived by her loving sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sister, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, extended family and friends.
The family were overwhelmed by the support shown to them. On behalf of the Goggins family, her son Johnny thanked the neighbours and community of New Ross and those who traveled from Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford and the UK to support them during the funeral. Special thanks to Msgr Joe McGrath, Fr Robert Nolan and all those who participated in the funeral mass and to Cooney’s funeral directors, New Ross.
