Kilkenny snooker player into the last 16 of the Senior European Championships

Kilkenny cueist Benny O'Brien has made it through to the Last 16 stage of the Senior European Championships 2025 in Golem, Albania.

Earlier this afternoon, he came out on top of his Last 32 encounter - a tense 4-3 victory over Ali Anwar of England.

Benny will now face the winner of the Last 32 match between Allan Morgan (Wales) and Olivier Pechenart (Belgium) in the Last 16 - scheduled for 8pm this evening (Monday).

Prior to his win today, Benny made light work of his opponents in the round robin stage, seeing off the challenges of Tero Nappari (Finland), Géza Zakariás (Hungary) and Peter Bullen (Belgium) - only conceding one frame along the way.

Last year, the local potter made it as far as the Last 64 stage, meaning he has already surpassed that feat this time around.

A native of The Butts in Kilkenny City, Benny previously won the All-Ireland Snooker Club Championship (2022) with Kilkenny snooker team ‘The Kilkenny Shed’.
