PRIDE of place in the ladies section went to rising talent Shauna Scannell, who won the ladies competition last week. Scannell took first place with an incredible score of 50 points.
Shauna has lost eight shots in the last three weeks. One of the juvenile girls who is playing regularly in the ladies weekly competitions, she is proving to be a great golfer. This week’s competition for ladies is the Monthly Medal (stroke). Tee times are, as usual, at 10am, 2 and 3.15pm.
Meanwhile all ladies are reminded that the first round of the Club Matchplay competition must be played by Sunday, July 24. Entry fee is E5.
SINGLES – There was a large field for the latest round of the club’s weekly open singles competition. Many visitors were from neighbouring clubs, including a group of 24 ladies from Dungarvan GC. Competition was strong with 5 handicapper Lee McMillan (Blessington Lakes) scoring a brilliant three under round to finish on 45 points. Local junior Philip Dreeling, playing off 17, was runner-up with 40 points.
This competition continues tomorrow (Thursday) and is proving popular with members and guests alike.
MEDAL – The men’s Monthly Medal was played for at the weekend and saw a large entry for the competition off the blue tees. Results are available online.
BUSY WEEK – There is a busy week in store for the club. Friday sees an invitation to neighbouring captains to enjoy golf and dinner from 12.30pm. Later that afternoon the club will host the Left Handers’ Championship. This singles competition is open to members and non members. Tee times are available from 056-7726699.
The Intermediate Scratch Cup will be held on Sunday. An open competition for both members and visitors, the 2010 winner Tony Treacy is practising hard as he attempts to retain his title and the trophy.

Friday/Saturday: Open Left Handers’ Championship (Singles). Sunday: Intermediate Scratch Cup.
