The 2012 GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix Showjumping League went right down to the wire with Olympic Games medal winner, Cian O’Connor and Kilkenny’s Eddie Moloney entering the final day on equal points, and in the end just .01 seconds split the pair.
In the final at the Cavan International Horse Show things couldn’t have been scripted better with the chief protaganists, Cian O’Connor and Eddie Moloney getting horses through to the jump off.
So, it was down to O’Connor and Moloney to battle it out for the title. It was O’Connor’s day as he edged Ulano across the line in 35.70.
It was agonising for Premier Series champion Moloney, who steered Macushla R to a double clear, breaking the beam in 35.71 to miss out on a fantastic double by the smallest of margins.
In the end O’Connor finishes on 35 points with Eddie Moloney second on 32.
It has been a year to remember for O’Connor, having won Olympic bronze in London, and he now adds the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League title for the second time, having won it back in 2008.
For good measure, O’Connor’s horse Ulano, which he won on in Eglinton in October, won again to clinch the title of the Leading Horse.
