THE first round of the Leinster under-15 inter-club competition saw Gowran Park host Kilkenny GC over the weekend. This proved a very difficult fixture for Gowran who came up against a very competitive Kilkenny team.

After some very close games, and some excellent golf, Kilkenny eventually won the match by four games to one. Best for Gowran Park was Phillip Dreeling who was all square with Jamie Byrne after 18 holes before winning his match with a great par on the first play-off hole.

Matt Kenny, Cormac O’Driscoll, Sean Roche and Danny Monks all played good golf but had to be content with second best to some very talented Kilkenny golfers. Sean Carey, Michael Carey and Gareth Graham all distinguished themselves in the non-scoring matches.

Gowran will play Carlow in the next round on Saturday evening, but must depend on other results if they are to progress in this competition.
