Michael Hayes, playing off 15 handicap, won the November men’s singles played at Kilkenny golf club over the weekend with 40 points. Michael turned with 17 points and added 23 on the back nine which he covered in just three over par with the help of a birdie on the 14th.
He beat Patrick Hennesssy (16) and Jim White (6) and Michael Keane (14) on the count back of the back nine. Patrick Hennessy had halves of 19 and 21 for his 40 points. Jim White shot a great score of two over par 73 gross in compiling his 40 points.
Michael Keane had 24 points on the front nine but unfortunately added only 16 points on the back nine. The gross was won by Graham Nugent (1) with 35 gross points.
The three person team event played on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Brendan Hogan (3), Dave Dooley (11) and Margaret Hogan (25) with 68 points. Second on 66 points were Michael O’Reilly (18), Denis Carey (12) and Michael Cody (20).
With the mid-term school break on at the moment the Juvenile Committee have organised a three person team event on Friday from 9.30 to 11.30am. Those intending to play are requested to place their names on the sheets on the ladies and gents notice boards and turn up at 9.15 on Friday morning.
The senior men’s 13 hole competition last week was won by John O’Donovan (17), Jim Treacy (21) and Sean Breathnach (22). They returned 60 points. They had another five points added as they only had a three man team.
John O’Donovan was in good from registering four threes on the card which included successive birdies at the 4th and 5th holes. Second place on 64 points were Martin Duggan (13), John O’Leary (18), Dave Schofield (25) and Tom McDonald (25).
Third on 64 points were Pat Drennan (14), Michael O’Reilly (18), Reay Brandon (22) and Michael Cuddihy (23).
The senior ladies competition was won by Sheila Brennan, Elizabeth Tobin and Mary Shields with 33 points. Ursula deLoughrey, Joan O’Sullivan and Teresa Brandon claimed second place with 32 points.
CAPTAINS’ DINNER: Club Captain Michael Mahony and Lady Captain Margaret O’Rourke will host their joint Captains dinner on Saturday, November 19 (8pm) in the golf club. Members and guests welcome. Those attending are requested to place their names on the sheet on the notice board in the bar.
WINTER RULES: Winter Rules were introduced recently. The ball may be lifted and placed everywhere throughout the course except in hazards.
The spot where the ball lies must be marked before lifting and replaced within six inches not nearer the hole. Failure to mark the spot before lifting will result in a one stroke penalty.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: The annual memorial service for deceased members will be held on Thursday, November 24 (8pm).
BAR HOURS: Bar closing hours have changed for the Winter with earlier closing times on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday at 7pm and Saturday 9pm. Closing times on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday remain unchanged for the moment.

LADIES NEWS: The ladies 13 hole Stableford arranged for Sunday, October 23 and Tuesday 25 was cancelled as no ladies played on Tuesday due to the weather. There were insufficient numbers on Sunday for a valid competition.
One lady playing off 8 handicap had returned 30 points for the 13 holes on the Sunday and was very disappointed that the competition was a non-runner.
The Ladies competitions will revert back to 9 holes from now on.
The ladies will have a prize presentation on Tuesday, November 8 (8pm). Prizes for the previous five weeks competitions will be presented.
