ON Sunday’s spin members of Marble City Cyclers headed to Callan, across to Thomastown via Knocktopher and then back home through Bennettsbridge. This route was 62 kilometres and it was nice and flat so the group cruised around at an average speed of 28kph.
The group was made up of Barry Lynch, Clive Dunne, Ger McDonald, Gerry McGovern, Joe Ryan, John Corcoran, Liam Lysaght, Mick Burke, Mike Shields, Pat Murray and Paul Cullen. Non-members are always welcome to join in. The meeting point is Kilkenny Castle gates at 10am.
On Saturday the club had a smaller group out. They headed to Thomastown, across to Ballyhale and back in the Waterford Road.
This route was over 48kms and the group averaged 26kph. Joe Ryan, Mick Barron, Denis Keogh, John Corcoran and Ger McDonald made up the group.
The club is currently running two evening fitness classes; spinning on Tuesday evenings and core strength training on Thursdays. These classes will both run for 10 weeks so they will take members right up to Christmas.
Remember, on Saturday a group is heading down to Ballyhoura for a day of mountain biking. It is not too late to sign up if you’re interested. Full details are on the club website.
Tip of the Week: now that the clocks have gone back and its darker earlier in the evening remember that when cycling at night you are advised to have a white front light, a red back light and a rear reflector. Also, consider wearing a reflective high-visibility jacket or reflective strips on clothing.
These help motorists to see you. Be Safe, be seen!
