THE annual meeting of the Joint Club will be held in Kilkenny GC tomorrow (Thursday) at 7.15pm.
Nominations for the Joint committee have now closed. The 11 nominations for the nine slots on committee are posted on the noticeboard.
CROSSCARD - The Saturday crosscard competition attracted a record number of entrants. Seventy-one players took part in the competition, which was won by team of David Dooley (11), Martin Hanrick (11), Noel Skehan (12) and Jimmy Rhatigan (17) with 68 points. Second place with the best of the 67s went to Bernie Clarke (11) Mick Crotty (15) Michael Kinchella (16) and John O’Leary (18).
ALLIANCE - The Men’s Senior Alliance was held on Sunday. The winner of the net prize was local man Ronan Kelleher (5) who shot level par gross of 71 for a 66 nett. The gross was won by Paul O’Hara (scr) with a 73 and second gross went to Craig Martin (+1), also with a 73.
BEREAVED - Sympathy went to two families who have been bereaved by the death of two former members of the club. Tim Hickey, brother of current members Tom, Pat and Canice, passed away in Australia. Tim emigrated to Australia in 1987 with his wife Patricia and family. Tim served on committee before emigrating. He returned to Ireland frequently, always calling to the club to renew old acquaintances and play a game of golf.
Laura Madeline O’Connor also died last week. A former club member, Laura’s husband W.S. O’Connor served as Captain in 1959. Laura’s son Barry and grandchildren Geoffrey and Heather are current club members.
SENIORS - The Senior men will resume their competitions tomorrow (Thursday). Assembly is at 10.30am for an earlier than usual starting time of 10.45am. The final time for entries on the day will be 11.30am.
The Senior men will also hold their annual meeting tomorrow at 3pm.
Last week’s competition for senior ladies was won by Adrienne Walsh, Breda Kavanagh and Breda Burke with 34 points.
The rearranged Christmas outing will be held tomorrow (Thursday). The draw has been made, with copies posted on the Ladies noticeboard and left in the office. Golf will be followed by a light lunch and the annual meeting, which will be held at 1.30pm.
DRAW - The Pro Shop Christmas draw was held recently. P.J. Martin was the winner of the set of Ping G20 irons. Ollie Cullen won the Ping golf bag, while Brendan Hogan won a pair of Footjoy golf shoes.
SNOOKER - Entries are now invited for the club singles snooker tournament. Entry fee is E5, which is payable at the Bar. Closing date for entries is Saturday, with the draw being posted on Monday.
WINTER SPECIAL - The club’s Winter special (Monday to Friday) continues until March 31. Players can enjoy a round of golf and choice of main course or an all day breakfast plus tea/coffee for only E35. Tee time must be booked in advance.
MARKS, DIVOTS - Members are requested to pay particular attention to repairing pitch marks and divots. All members are asked to repair at least one pitch mark along with their own and also to remind their playing partners to do likewise.
