KILKENNY swimming club had four swimmers competing in the Leinster Division 2 age groups in the NSAC Dublin. They all did very well to achieve the qualifying times for the gala.
Fiona Jonston made two finals. She was 7th in the 100m breaststroke and 9th in the 100m freestyle.
Catherine Brennan (under-13) finished 13th in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.
Rianne Byrne was 14th in the 100m freestyle under-14. Diarmuid Coffey also swam in the 100m breaststroke under-12 years.
The Wexford small fry gala was held on Sunday in Wexford pool. Kilkenny swimming club had 13 swimmers at this gala. They all posted great personal bests. Some were competing for the first time.
Youngest swimmer was Anna Cass (8), who swam in the under-9 section. She won silver in the 50m breaststroke and was fourth in the 50m backststroke.
Swimming at under-9 level also was Anna McCabe who won gold in the 50m freestyle final.
In under-10 was Polly Peters, who won gold in the 50m breaststroke final. Swimming under-10 years was Jane Lawlor, who took silver in the final of 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. Jane also made the finals of 50m freestyle where she took bronze. She was fourth in the final of 50m breaststroke.
Next up was Doireann Doyle (under-10). She made the finals of the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke where she was fifth in both.
Swimming with the under-11 group was Laura Hayes. She won gold medal in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the next three finals, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
In action at under-11 was Roisin Galway. She made two final and was 5th in both, the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.
In the under-12 section Stacey O’Carroll was seventh in the 50m breaststroke and 10th in the 50m freestyle.
The four girls combined to swim in the under-11/12 freestyle 4x50m relay. They were Anna McCabe, Laura Hayes, Jane Lawlor and Roisin Galway. They took silver.
The girls also swam the 4x50m medley team relay. Swimming backstroke was Jane Lawlor; breaststroke leg was Polly Peters; Laura Hayes swam the butterfly and last freestyle was Rosin Galway. They took silver.
Next it was the turn of the boys, starting with Declan Coffey who swam under 10 years. He made the final of the 50m freestyle and finished fourth. Declan also swam the 50m backstroke and was sixth. He came 7th in the 50m breaststroke.
Next up was Paul Prendergast swimming at under-11 level. He was fourth in the 50m breaststroke final and 8th in the 50m freestyle.
Ultan Conroy was fifth in the 50m freestyle final under-11. Liam Hoban (under-11) won silver in the final of the 50m backstroke and was fourth in the 50m freestyle.
Swimming under-12 years was Diarmuid Coffey. He finished fourth in the final of the 50m breaststroke and was fifth in the 50m backstroke and 6th in the 50m freestyle.
Four of the boys swam in the 4x50m medley relay. They were Paul Prendergast (backststroke), Liam Ultan Conroy (breaststroke), Liam Hoban (butterfly) and Diarmuid Coffey (freestyle). They won silver to round off a great gala for all.
