THE September Monthly Medal produced hot scoring at Kilkenny GC with two scores of 64 returned. The winner was Richie Guilfoyle (4), who edged out Ivan Dunne (16) on the back nine.

Richie, who shot 68 gross, was out in level par 36 with a birdie on the third and a bogey on the ninth. He came back in 32 strokes with an eagle on the 14th and further birdies on the 11th, 12th and 18th. Ivan shot an 80 gross with halves of 41 and 39, with a double bogey six on the 16th proving costly.

Shane Mahony (11) shot 65 for third place. The gross was won by Eddie Power (+1) with 71 gross. The remainder of the prizes were won with scores of 66.

TROPHY - The ladies 18 hole stableford Mount Juliet Trophy was won by Dervilla O’Byrne (22) with 42 points. Dervilla compiled her score with 22 points on the front nine and 20 on the back. Runner up on 38 points was Phyl Doyle (13), while Mags Cuddihy (8) won the gross.

ALGARVE - Roscrea GC hold a competition each September for the winners of the various Captains’ prizes. The men’s competition was held on Friday, with 85 clubs represented.

Daragh McNamara, who won Captain Seamus Rochford’s prize in June, represented Kilkenny GC. He finished in the top four, qualifying for the finals of the competition, which will be played in the Algarve in Portugal next Spring.

SENIORS - The senior ladies competition was won by Elizabeth Tobin, Lila Byrne and Mary Barry. Second place went to Hilda Richardson, Kathleen Price and Kathleen Kelly.

The Ladies will play for Lady Captain Pauline Cullinane’s prize tomorrow (Thursday) over 13 holes. The competition begins at 9.30am and will be followed by a meal. Cancellations are asked to contact Elizabeth Tobin, tel 087-2843425.

The ladies senior foursomes team will compete in the All-Ireland finals in Courtown on Friday, September 28 at 8am. Full details next week.

The senior men’s competition on Thursday was won by Jack Troy (16), Martin Murphy (16), Sean Breathnach (23) and Kevin Hogan (27). Jack recorded birdies on the second and fifth while Martin had a birdie on the 10th. They had one point to spare from Eddie Guilfoyle (13), Michael Doran (16), Eamon Molloy (25) and Eamon Brennan (28).

The competition tomorrow (Thursday) at 10.45am will be Senior Captain Pat O’Briain’s prize. There will be a meal afterwards at 4.30pm.

SINGLES - Owing to bad weather earlier in the year, a Wednesday open singles event has been added to the calendar for September 26. Bookings are now available online.

DINNER - The Joint Captains’ dinner will be held in the clubhouse on Sunday, November 24.

RUSSELL CLASSIC - The Eddie Russell memorial classic will be held in the club on Friday from 8am to 3.30pm.

Eddie, who was an active member of the club, passed away last year. His family and friends are holding this classic to raise funds for Cancer research.
