The annual memorial service for members and former members of Kilkenny golf club who died during the year will be held in the club on Thursday (8pm).

The following members and former members passed away during the year - Eileen Cassidy, Tim Hickey, Moss Hogan, Ann Hughes, Josie Kelly, John O’Brien, John O’Toole, Walter (Watty) Tallis and Declan Wyley. All family members, relatives and friends of the deceased are invited to the service.

Captains’ Seamus Rochford and Pauline Cullinane held their joint Captains’ dinner in the clubhouse on Saturday night. A large attendance turned out to honour the two Captains. It was a very enjoyable and successful night and both Captains paid tribute to all their committees and staff who helped them during the year.

The ladies 9 hole Christmas fare competition last week was won by Ann Widger (22) with 18 points. Second and third places were claimed by Breda Roche (15) and Barbara Teehan (26) with 17 points.

The men’s December hamper lost out on Saturday as a result of the frost. The competition went ahead on Sunday and the Competition Committee have decided to continue the event into next Sunday and amalgamate the two days. Accordingly the men’s 18 hole singles scheduled for Sunday, December 2 has been cancelled.

The senior men’s and senior ladies had no competitions last Thursday due to the weather. They will both resume activities this Thursday.

BAR CUP: Conor Boland defeated Jim White on the 18th in the Bar Cup final.

TURKEY COMPETITION: There will a 13 hole turkey competition every week, Monday to Friday, between now and Christmas. The entry fee of €3 must be paid in Pro Shop before playing. Players may utilise any free spots that are available on timesheet.

INTRODUCTORY OFFER: There is a limited introductory first year membership offer open to applicants on the waiting list and other interested parties. If interested contact Sean or Aoife in the office (056-7765400).

SNOOKER: In the men’s snooker doubles Martin Hanrick and Paul Hanafin defeated Liam Barry and Melay; Michael Kennedy and Brendan Power defeated Kieran Wall and Michael Kinchella to reach the semi-finals. There are two quarter-finals still outstanding. The participants are reminded that these matches were due to be played by November 20.
