Competitors from Waterford, Wexford, Laois and Carlow checked in for the shotgun start at 11am. With excellent playing conditions the scoring was quite impressive.

Waterford member John Coady, playing off 16, secured top spot with a great score of 43 points. Mountain View members T.J. Coughlan (10) and John Brennan (11) took second and third places with 40 and 39 points respectively. Lawrence Walsh (Gowran Park) and Noel Morrissey (Callan) took the prizes for best nines.

Following this series the club’s Midweek Open competition reverts to Thursdays only. A timesheet is in place, with prizes available each day.

NEWS - There was an 18 hole singles competition for members at the weekend. With Summer Rules now in play Brian Lannon (12) proved too strong for the field, securing victory with a great score of 42 points.

P.J. Dreeling and Martin Donohoe were right behind on 39 points apiece. P.J. took the runner-up spot on countback.

The Members’ midweek nine hole competition starts today (Wednesday). Booking is not required and members play as they arrive, giving golfers the chance to play with somebody new.

Members present for the results after golf will be entitled to enter the members draw for free membership for 2013.

This weekend’s competitions include a members’ 18 hole competition on Saturday and Sunday. A charity fund-raiser for the Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team in memory of Dan Bolger will be held on Easter Monday. All members are asked to support this cause.

DEADLINE - The deadline for the club matchplay competitions (singles and fourball) is Sunday, April 15. Members are asked to put their entry fee of E10 per person in an envelope, marking their name clearly on this envelope, and put it in the men’s scorebox. The draw will be held on Monday, April 16.

LADIES - The ladies Minor Cup team were beaten by Callan at Kilkenny GC. In a poor weekend for the club the ladies Intermediate Cup team bowed out against Cill Dara in Mount Wolseley, losing the deciding match on the 18th. The Mixed Foursome Team also lost, going down on the 20th hole against Mount Juliet.

Thanks went to all managers, players, caddies and supporters.

Results, Ladies March Medal: 1 Kate Hennessy (10), 72pts; 2 Eithne Donnelly (32), 72pts; 3 Kathleen Whitehead (26), 73pts.

EASTER EGG - The club will hold an Easter Open singles competition from April 10 to 12.

This event will overlap with an Easter Egg Hunt on the course. Competitors who find Easter Eggs on the course over these three days will win lunch for two in the clubhouse.

FRED DALY - Gowran Park will host the Fred Daly Championship on Friday, April 13. Clubs from all over the South East are busy practising for this high profile competition in the junior ranks. The tee will be reserved from 8am through to 12 noon on the day.

DIARY - Tomorrow (Thursday): Open Singles; visitors E20, members E5.

Monday: Open two-person team event; visitors E20, members E10. Proceeds will go to Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team.

Tuesday: Seniors Open Singles; visitors E15, members E5.
