SIXTEEN teams took to the course in near-perfect conditions for the seniors’ outing on Thursday.
A stiff wind made scoring on some holes rather difficult, but the target score of 90 points was still achieved. Only one team reached that figure, with their performance on the outward nine setting the foundations for ultimate victory. Kevin Treacy (13), Harry Rheinhart (13), Larry Shannon (21) and Paul Laffan (22) turned with 49 points and adding 41 on the home stretch they were clear winners by a margin of three. On a countback the 87 points compiled by John Murphy (15), Fr Ger O’Brien (15), Willie Naddy (19) and Aidan O’Connor (20) was good enough to claim the runner-up spot. Third on the same total of 87 points were Willie Byrne (10), Pat Ryan (17), Dixie O’Connell (19) and Tom Kent (20).
Nearest the pin prizes went to Denis Kirwan (9th Hole) and Kieran O’Grady on the 11th. As regards nearest the pin prizes, all participants please note that the measuring must be done strictly within the length of the tape situated on that particular hole.
The seniors will have their usual outing tomorrow (Thursday). The away friendly fixture is at Carrick-on-Suir on Monday, with green fees pegged at E12. On Thursday, July 7, there will be the Meals on Wheels Charity outing but the seniors will put up the prizes for category winners in our own group.
ALLIANCE - The timesheet for the Autumn Seniors Alliance outing to Callan GC will be available tomorrow (Thursday). A limited number of spaces have been allotted to New Ross members.
