THERE was a variety of weather conditions, but the climate didn’t affect scoring when Michael O’Neill held his Captain’s prize at New Ross GC recently.
A large field competed for the prize, with more than 90 golfers qualifying for the Sunday play-off. The course was in excellent condition, thanks to the hard work of Seamus Power and his team. The eventual winner of the Captain’s prize for 2012 was Liam Murphy, who plays off a handicap of 13. In second place, beaten on a countback was Des Redmond. The evergreen Noel Kehoe came third.
The captain, in his presentation speech, thanked all the club officers for their contribution. Special mention was given to the professional staff in the shop, catering, course, bar staff and office staff, without whom the club would not operate to its levels.
