Brendan Power (5) continued his good form of late when he partnered Michael Leahy (15) to win the October men’s hamper fourball at the weekend. Brendan and Michael returned 46 points to win by one point.

The competition was three quarters handicap, which left Brendan with 4 shots and Michael with 11. They covered the 18 holes in one under par better ball. Brendan had birdies on the 12th and Michael on the 3rd and 4th. Their only dropped shots were on the 1st and 7th.

Second were Niall O’Gorman (5) and Fergal Cantwell (7) with a great score of 45 points off their handicap. Niall had four shots and Fergal five. They had three bogies on the 4th, 5th and 16th but compensated with birdies on the 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 17th and 18th for a round of 67 gross better ball.

Third with the best of the 44s’ were Tony Butler (12) and Seamus Rochford (12). They had 24 points on the back nine. The other 44s’ in the prizes were Kieran Wall (5) and John Geoghegan (17) 4th; Noel Morrissey (13) and Conor Morrissey (18) 5th; Richie Manogue (8) and Seamus McGuire (11) 6th.

One score of 43 points by Maurice Nolan (10) and Michael Nolan (14) secured the last prize.

The Saturday crosscard made a return and it was a 13 hole champagne scramble. The winners with 74 points were Billy Burke (8), Morgan Doyle (14), Richie Phelan (16) and John O’Donovan (18). Billy and Morgan recorded birdies on the third and they had a very good return on the three par threes they played.

They took six points on the 10th, seven on the 15th with a par from Morgan and a birdie from Richie and took eight points from the 17th with birdies from Morgan and Richie again.

Second on the best of the 72s were Brendan Power (5), Michael O’Reilly (19), Maurice Ryan (21) and Tony O’Reilly (22) on 72 points. They found the par threes fruitful taking 19 points them.

Brendan had birdies on the 4th and 15th. Maurice recorded one on the 6th. Third went to Anthony Cleere (5), Mark Grant (9), Myles McCabe (22), Martin Kelly (26) on 72 points. Fourth on the same score were Stephen Sheenan (13), Seamus Rochford (12), Peter Ryan (17) and Alan Snype (20) 72 points.

Those checking the cards on Saturday had a busy time. There were numerous errors on the cards. Hopefully those entrusted with marking the cards in future will take more care. Players should also ensure the players handicaps on the card are correct.

The ladies 18 hole Stableford last week was won by Margaret Hogan (25) with 38 points. Margaret had 20 points on the back nine to edge out Catherine Barrett (22). Catherine had two halves of 19 points.

Third was Bridie McGarry (9) on 37 points. Bridie had a strong back nine of 21 points. The remainder of the net prizes were won with 36 points.

Mary Leahy Browne (3) shot 74 gross to win the gross prize with 35 points. Mary was only one over par for her round. She was level par for 17 holes but bogeyed the 18th.

The nine hole competition was won by Joan Norris (22) with 15 points. Pauline O’Sullivan (28) was second on 13 points.

SNOOKER - The sheet for list of names for the snooker doubles is posted on the men’s notice board. The draw will be on October 23. Entry fee per pair is €12. Place names on sheet and entry fee in envelope behind the bar.

The men’s Saturday Crosscard will continue this Saturday. Check in by 1.15 at latest for shotgun start at 1.30pm.

DRAINAGE - Drainage work will be carried out on a number of holes over the next few weeks. There will be a bit of disruption and members have been asked for their cooperation.

The course is in great condition at the moment. Members have been asked to play their part by repairing pitch marks and replacing divots.

MEMBERSHIP - There are a number of vacancies open for the ladies and gents sections of the club.

Applicants who wish to join now can enjoy the benefit of three months free membership as their fees will cover them until their subscription becomes due for renewal in 2015.

Membership for the boys and girls primary/juvenile/junior categories will not be considered until February.

CREDIT - As the club approaches the end of the financial year members are reminded that any unused portion of the beverage credit they paid with their annual subscription at the beginning of the year will be forfeited if not used by October 31.
