The weekly tournaments resumed at the Kilkenny club on Friday evening. The balmy weather, and not to forget the novel introduction of a barbecue courtesy of tournament organiser Brian Doyle, certainly helped to make the evening a huge success.
As for the successful prize winners, P.J. Trait partnered Bride Maistarfum to take fist prize in the first section under review. Lexi Trait joined Roisin Gribbin to take second place.
The top prize in the other section went to Tom Madigan and Heather Hogan. The final prize of the evening was secured by Colm Culleton and Christina Heffernan.
The tournament will be held each Friday during the coming week, starting at 7.30pm. Players enter by putting their name on the club noticeboard.
Alternatively, players can telephone Brian Doyle (086-8714941) before 7pm on the evening of competition. In addition, Brian should be advised of any unavoidable cancellation which may arise before that time. The Parks Tennis programme for 2012 commences on July 2. The programme provides an opportunity for children who have not held a racket before to acquire an insight into the game for a nominal cost which includes coaching.
Registration is on Saturday from 2pm to 4pm in Kilkenny at the Presentation Convent, Loughboy. In addition to the above venue, the course will be held at Ballyhale, Graignamanagh, Thomastown and Kilmoganny.
For further details contact the Parks telephone at 085-2828846 (6 to 8pm). The Parks programme is also available in Carlow at Carlow tennis club, Rathvilly and Leighlinbridge. For further details ring 087-2052955.
