IT WAS A WEEKEND which promised to deliver a Captain’s Prize winner, but the weather was the only champion at Callan GC.
The elements intervened, with torrential rain on Saturday night and Sunday morning forcing the closure of the course. Conditions left club captain Sean Walzer and his competition organisers with no option but to postpone the event until August.
The result was unfortunate for those who played in beautiful conditions on Friday and Saturday, producing scores that would have qualified. However, all will get their chance to take home the title when the competition is played on the August Bank Holiday Weekend.
The new date has brought a change to the club calendar. The President’s Shield, scheduled for the August Bank Holiday Weekend, will now be played on Sunday, July 1. Sean Walzer’s Captain’s Prize will be held from August 3 to 5.
