WINTER came early when the new season of the Open Winter League started at Callan on Wednesday.
The competition, which will see the winner earn a set of irons, will run over the months of October, November, December, January, February and March. Each competitor can play as many days as they want with their best three scores over the course of the competition to count.
When the qualifier ends in March the top 50 players who have accumulated the highest number of points (counting their best three cards) will compete in a play-off.
The cost of entry is E6 for members’ first round, with E3 for all subsequent rounds. Non members can play for E12 for their first entry and E10 for all subsequent entries. There will be monthly prizes also.
Enquiries by societies and individuals can be made by contacting Margaret, tel 056-7725136.
