Joan Cody, playing off 19 handicap, won President Joe Nolan’s prize to the Ladies played on Sunday.
Joan shot 44 points and had two points to spare from Dervilla O’Byrne (30) who shot 42 points. Joan had halves of 23 and 21 points, despite having two blanks on the fifth and 13th holes. The highlight of her round was the ninth hole where she recorded a birdie four and with two shots on the hole it was worth five points.
Joan has achieved a new handicap of 16. It is a new low for her and her first time to get below 18. Dervilla O’Byrne claimed second place on 42 points. Dervilla joined the club in 2010 playing off 36 handicap and has managed to reduce it to 27 at present.
Yvonne Dore (15) and Niamh Spratt (18) both recorded 41 points. The gross was won by Mary Dowling (scr) with 35 gross points.
Luke Wall, playing off 11 handicap shot 43 points to win the men’s singles competition on Saturday. Luke covered the front nine in one over 37 gross and came back in just three over 38 despite taking a six on the 16th hole.
Luke had no birdies on his card but had 15 pars for a very consistent round; his only dropped shots were on the 1st, 16th and 18th. Luke’s nephew and playing partner on the day Cormac Hickey (7) came in second on 42 points.
Cormac was two under gross and had a great round going until he came to the 16th where he recorded a triple bogey seven. He recovered to par the 17th and 18th for a 72 gross and 42 points. Cormac had four birdies on the card including a hat trick on the third, fourth and fifth.
Two other players recorded 42 point totals - Robert Shortall (14) and Martin Hanrahan (18). The gross was won by Eddie Power (+1) with 36 gross points.
The Ladies V Par competition, which was held on June 28, was won by Geraldine O’Connor playing off 26 handicap on four up. Geraldine won by one hole from Annette Whelan (29) and Claver Cahill (21) who both returned three ups. The gross was won by Mary Leahy Browne (4) on one down.
The Men’s seniors competition on Thursday was won by the three-man team of Eugene Orr (19), Paddy Byrne (21) and Christy Power (12) with 70 points. They scored 65 points and were given a bonus five points because they only had three men on their team. All three players scored steady and Eugene Orr had a birdie on the fourth. The team of Fr Pat Duggan (18) Christy Rainey (22) John Butler (22) and Eamon Molloy (23) were runners-up on 62 points.
The senior ladies competition on Thursday was won by Patti Burke, Breda Kavanagh, Grace Brett on 39 points. The runners-up on 38 points were Kitty Nolan, Phil O’Carroll and Mary Murphy.

MATCHPLAY - The next round of match play competitions are due for completion by the following dates: Men’s Club Singles, August 23; Men’s Foursomes, July 23; Mixed Foursomes, July 23; Men’s Fourball, July 18.
The four semi-finalists in the Mens Club singles are Owen Phelan v Noel O’Sullivan and Richard Guilfoyle v Billy Burke. Thanks to all competitors for keeping to the date schedule. The preliminary round of the Men’s Scratch Matchplay is due for completion by July 18.
INTER-CLUB - The semi-final of the Men’s Provincial Towns Cup against Borris has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at 4pm. Kilkenny will have home advantage with five of the nine matches in Kilkenny.
J.B. CARR - The J.B. Carr team took on Castlecomer in Castlecomer on Monday and lost by 3½ to 1½. Denis Carey (12) & Michael O’Reilly (18) lost on the 18th, John O’Donovan (16) & Tom Gunning (13) were beaten early, Christy Power (12) & Paddy Gubbins (18) were called in on the 18th, Richard McEvoy (15) & Jack Troy (14) won on the 16th, Frank Byrne (15) & Christy Rainey lost on the 17th.
The Finn Trophy Team played Tullamore on Thursday in Kilkenny. All five matches were in Kilkenny and Kilkenny won by 3½ to 1½.
Mary Leahy Browne (3) & Stella Coughlan (21) out first lost on the 18th, second match out was Margaret Cuddihy (9) & Liz Cleere (18) and they won on the 19th when Liz pitched stone dead for a birdie four, Bridie McGarry (9) & Joan Cody (18) were out third and won on the 18th, .Phyl Doyle (12) & Ann Widger (19) were two up going down the 14th and closed out their match when they won the14th and 15th for a 4 & 3 victory, Eithne Murphy (15) & Paula Bradbury (16) out in the fifth match were called in. The team will now play Enniscorthy in the regional semi-final.
The team was managed by Catherine King and Greta Nicholson.
