FOLLOWING the latest Men’s Committee Meeting at Callan GC changes were made to the way that cards must be completed before being entered as a competition card. The conditions of entry to every Men’s competition are:
1 - Entry fee must be paid in advance of play. 2 - Golfers must sign in to computer prior to playing. 3 - All areas of score must be completed before putting it the box (ie competition name, date, handicap and computer number, as well as signatures of marker and player). 4 - When finished players must enter scores into the computer.
Failure to comply will result in disqualification with no exceptions.
There is also confirmation that members (on Saturdays) who wish to play in both the weekend competitions on the same day, such as the Winter League and the singles stableford, must fill out a second card which must be dated, signed, handicap and bear the computer number as well as competition identification. This change is to clarify cards and make their processing much easier for competition organisers.
SOCIAL NIGHT - The clubhouse played host to the traditional Captains’ Dinner for the first time in many years last Saturday.
Captains for 2010, Robert Woodcock and Eileen Cuddihy, hosted the evening which was a thoroughly enjoyable one for all who attended. The buffet meal provided by Michael Walsh and his staff was superb and gained rave reviews. Entertainment for the guests was provided by Sean Donnelly and Jim Maher which capped off an excellent evening. Thanks went to all who made the night such a success.
The club will host a pre-Christmas Poker Classic on Saturday, December 17. Tickets are on sale now in the clubhouse and will also be available on the night.
TURKEYS/HAMS - There has been some serious competition in the Turkey and Ham events over the past few weeks. Paul Cunningham, Sean Walzer and Brian Cullen reduced their Christmas dinner expenses when they produced 44, 43 and 45 point tallies respectively to win on the last three successive Sundays (category winners are printed in the results section below).
The Turkey and Ham competitions will continue each week up to Christmas with plenty of opportunities available to win more festive fare.
LOTTO - There was no winner of the club lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 4, 8 and 33. Lucky dip winners: Sarah Cashin, CBS Callan, Orla Scott. Sellers’ prizes went to Mossie Skehan and Teresa Freyne.
Next week’s jackpot will be E1,650.
