After a lapse of five years the restoration of the mixed competition between the two senior societies was an outstanding success. Seventy-six braved the elements to enjoy an excellent day’s golf.

The introduction of the “champagne scramble” format proved very successful as it allowed players of all categories to be involved in the scoring. This was demonstrated on the second hole when a great Tom Gunning drive enabled one of his playing partners, Teresa Brandon, who after missing the green with her second shot, proceeded to chip in for a birdie. With two shots on the hole they amassed five points for the team.

Tom and Teresa along with David Schofield and Kathleen Price went on to win the competition. Following the golf everybody enjoyed a lovely meal, compliments of chef Barry Joyce and staff, after which both society captains, Noel O’Sullivan and Edith Ogilvie thanked all involved in the organisation of the event.
