Gary wins the Captain’s prize

GARY Ryan (14) won Seamus O’Brien’s Captain’s prize at Mountain View golf club on Sunday in very windy and blustery conditions.

GARY Ryan (14) won Seamus O’Brien’s Captain’s prize at Mountain View golf club on Sunday in very windy and blustery conditions.

The previous week 100 members took part in the qualifier. Conditions then were near perfect and the cut off was nett 71.

After scoring a 66 in the qualifier Gary played great golf in the windy conditions and scored a fabulous 68 on Sunday, a nett total 134. Second with a fantastic nett 66 in the play-off was Johnny Maher (10), 69 and 66 (135). Third was Nick Byrne (18), 64 and 71 (135).

Fourth was Tommy Malone (12), 67 and 72 (139). Fifth was John Byrne (14), 70 and 70 (140). Best gross prize was won by John Kelly Kelly (8), 71 and 74 (145). Front 9, Kane Ryan. Back 9, T. J. Coughlan.

Past Captain Jimmy Fitzpatrick (22), 67 and 73 (140). At the presentation of prizes club Captain Seamus O’Brien thanked all who took part in the competition. He complemented greenkeeper Edward Power on the fabulous condition of the course.

He also thanked the committee and course management for all their help over the past two weeks.

MARGARET WINS - Lady Captain Josie O’Gorman held her Lady Captain’s Day recently. The competition was a single strableford which was followed by a meal and presentation of prizes in the clubhouse.

In very windy conditions Margaret Murphy (23) was the winner with 32 points.

Results - 1 Margaret Murphy; 2 Ann Foskin; 3 Josie O’Gorman. Best Gross, Carmel Fennelly. Front 9, Anne Murphy. Back 9, Kathleen Slattery. Lowest number of putts, Imelda Moloney.

RUMBLED FOR CRUMLIN - This year Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, Club Challenge Qualifier will be held on Sunday. Members are asked to support this worthy cause.

The competition will be a three person rumble. Teams may comprise of any combination, ladies, gents or mixed. The entry fee is 60 Euros per team.

The winning team will represent the club in the Leinster final in the Hermitage golf club, Lucan on Thursday, August 25.
