Brendan Graham (24) won the McCalmont Cup played over the weekend with a 67 net. Brendan covered the front nine in 46 strokes and the back nine in 45. He edged out Christy Forde (14) on the last six.

Christy had halves of 41 and 40 in his 67. The 18th hole proved his undoing where he recorded a double bogey six. The gross was won by Richard Duggan (2), who shot a level par 71.

Cathal O’Neill (17) and Lee O’Sullivan (13) both returned 68’s and two 69’s from Anthony Cleere (5) and Liam McCormack (16) also featured in the prizes. The Junior prize was won by Richard Brennan (13) who returned a great score of 64. Richard’s handicap has now gone below 12. He will be eligible to win the main prizes in future men’s competitions.

The presentation of prizes is on Friday, October 7 (7pm).

COMPETITION SIGNING IN: Lady and gent members are reminded that they must sign in for competitions at the terminal in the foyer or the pro shop before commencing their round. Most members have been complying with this regulation since it was introduced a year ago but some have been signing in and entering their score when they have completed their round and some not signing in at all.

There is now a time delay of 90 minutes after signing in before a competitor can enter their score. This is an attempt to ensure all players sign in before they commence play and return their cards after they have completed their round.

In some cases players who only want to have their handicap reduced have not been signing in until they have completed their round. If they have a bad score they do not sign in or return their score because they do not want to receive an increase in handicap and this can distort the standard scratch of the day. By complying with the new sign in procedure the Handicap committee will be able to identify players who do not return their cards.

There were numerous signs on the first tee box last Sunday but there were still a small number of players who did not sign in before playing and we would request that they comply in future. With daylight time receding in the mornings players are also requested to observe the timesheet on Sunday mornings and not commence play prior to the timesheet in order to give the course staff time to prepare the course

Members are also reminded of their responsibilities re timesheets. The timesheet for last Sunday was full on Friday but by Sunday morning at 7.30 there were twenty two slots available. Some people had deleted their names very late on Saturday night. This practice is unfair to fellow members who were unable to book a slot earlier in the week. Members who repeatedly offend by deleting their names on Saturdays will be written to by the committee.
