LADIES: The ladies teams have put up great performances to date in many of the team competitions and have been so dedicated in practicing other courses in preparation. Pride of place goes to the minor team in Birr against Mullingar in the semi-final.

The team put in a great performance to secure victory. Joan Coonan sealed it on the 19th. Other team members who had to deal with constant rain were Mary Brophy, Delia O’Donohoe, Noreen Kinsella and Nuala Mahon. They play the final in Enniscorthy in early September.

The journey has came to an end for the Boyne and the Finn Trophy teams. The Boyne team had an away draw to Slade Valley. The two pairs at home, namely Betty Byrne/Patricia Doheny and Ita Madigan/Eileen Fogarty scored good wins. The other team members Honoria Fogarty/Noreen Kinsella, Maria Downey/Claire Dowling and Betty Byrne/ Joan Brennan put up a good fight in Slade Valley but were defeated.

Team manager Theresa Manning was pleased with the performances and felt a small things could have swung the result.

The real drama of the week was in Castlecomer when the Finn Team played the second leg of their match against Kilkenny. Castlecomer were four matches down after the first leg so it was a big ask to turn things around. The locals played with great skill and conviction and won the first four matches.

It was left to the final pair to go up the 19th. Kilkenny had the luck on the night and won on the 19 with an excellent putt. It was a real disappointment after such an excellent comeback. Well done to team manager, Claire Dowling and her team for a great run.

The team who played last Wednesday was Maria Downey, Patricia Doheny, Breda Phelan, Ita Madigan, Honoria Fogarty, Ann Ring, Emer Foley, Maureen Norton, Joan Brennan and Betty Owens.
