St Senan’s (Kilmacow) will hold their annual Open cross-country race in the Kilmacow sports complex on Sunday. The first race gets underway at 1pm. There will be ample car parking space and participants are advised to be present in good time before the start.
There will be juvenile races for boys and girls in the following categories - under-8, under-9 and under-10 with prizes for the top 10 finishers in each race.
There will also be team and individual races under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 for boys and girls with prizes for the first three individuals and the first three club teams (four to score).
The Fintan O’Sullivan memorial cup will be awarded to the top juvenile club overall.
There will also be races for junior and senior women (3000m) and for junior and senior men (7000m). There will be individual team (four to score) and category prizes for these races also. Full details and race distances can be found on www.stsenansac.com
Entry fee for these races is €5. The club contact person is Bill Lacey on 086 8100299. Admission for adults is €3 and children €2.
Richie Young memorial race
On the annual Richie Young memorial race of 2013, the Pink Rock course was well travelled between runners and walkers.
In joint first place were Sarah Lee and Darragh McDonald (each two seconds over predicted time). In second place was Johnny Carthy (three seconds over predicted time) and third was Mary McDonald (four second over predicted time).
In the walking section Maria Manning was first (10 seconds over predicted time). Joint second were Yasmine and Jade Kinsella (15 seconds over predicted time) and in third place was Sarah Jane Doherty (16 seconds under predicted time).
Fastest woman on the course was Maria Griffin in 19.29 and fastest male finisher was David O’Connor in 17.59.
There was a great atmosphere around the area and all who took part appeared to have great fun. There a great turn out in perfect weather to remember the late Richie Young a popular member of St Joseph’s AC.
Sunday, September 29 - St Senan’s AC Open cross-country at Kilmacow sports complex 1pm.
Sunday, October 6, county cross-country championships, juvenile even ages and Masters over-40 at Ballycurran Cross, 11am.
