The winners were Mark Shortall (8) and Brian Dillon (20) with 45 points. Mark had an eagle on the 4th and birdied the 1st. Brian, with his 15 shots, contributed well to the card. They had a breakdown of 22 and 23 and had one point to spare from two pairs on 44 points.

The best of the 44s’ in second place were Brendan Hogan (6) and P.J. Martin (12). Brendan had birdies on the 6th, 9th and 13th. P.J. birdied the 18th. The presentation of prizes is on Saturday (7pm).

The four person team event played on Bank Holiday Monday was a semi open competition. It was won by Mark Shortall (8), Joe Casey (13), Robert Shortall (11) and Paschal Connolly (15) with 90 points. They won on the count back from James Young (6), Des Byrne (16), John Byrne (8) and Brian Delaney (13), who also returned 90 points.

The winners had a great back nine of 50 points. Paschal Connolly recorded birdies on the 10th and 12th.

The ladies and gents Open singles last week was won by Thomas Buckley (17) of Mountain View with 39 points. He won on the back nine from Conor Morrissey (18) and Dave Deloughrey (10), who also returned 39 pointts, to finish second and third respectively. The gross was won by Conor Boland (5) with 33 Gross points.

The ladies 18 hole stableford competition was won by juvenile member Aoife Crowdle playing off 36 handicap with 39 points. The runner-up was Hilda Richardson (23) with 38 points.

Another juvenile member Jan Browne (27) took third place with 38 points. Niamh Kelly (11) was fourth with 37 points. The last net prizes went to Stella Coughlan (19) and Dervilla O’Byrne (16) with 36 points. The best gross was won by Mary Leahy Browne (3) with 35 gross pts.

The men’s seniors competition was won Michael Grant (8), John O’Donovan (18), Michael O’Neill (23) and Michael Cuddihy (26) with 67 points. Second were Martin Mullane (16), Michael Cody (21), Tom Reade (25) and Michael Barry (26) with 66 points.

Third place on the same score were Geoff Meagher (15), Michael O’Reilly (19), Dave Schofield (27) and Terry Morris (22).

The senior ladies competition was won by Mary Prendergast, Josie Bolger and Joan Mannion with 43 points. The winners had seven points to spare over Patti Burke, Phil Cooke and Kathleen Price in second place. Third were Sheila Brennan, Aileen Hehir, Ann Gubbins and Jane Duggan on 34 points. The fourth and final place went to Adrienne Walsh, Greta Nicholson and Barbara Schofield, also on 34 points.

MEN’S PRESENTATION: Prize presentation will be on Saturday (7pm). All outstanding competitions, including the Easter weekend competitions, will be presented. The presentation will also be made for the snooker singles on Saturday night. The finalists and losing semi-finalists are requested to attend.

LOCAL RULES: Placing ceased from Saturday. The ball must be played as it lies throughout the course. Relief is available from ground disturbed following the recent work on the course.

Players should familiarize themselves with the rules which are posted on the window at the front door and also on the first tee box. As always, if availing of relief consult and agree with your playing partners.

JUNIOR/JUVENILE: The Juvenile Committee are looking for volunteers to help out with the coaching and supervision when the Saturday morning coaching sessions commence. Contact Leo Byrne, Michael Keenan, Niamh Kelly or the office.

Meanwhile, congratulations to the girls who took part in the May Fitzgibbon trophy in the Curragh on Saturday. Aoife Crowdle and Eabha Sloyan finished second in this foursomes competition with 35 points while Sarah Molloy and Niamh Mulrooney with 34 points were third.

Both pairs qualify for the All-Ireland final in Greystones in July.

Katie Keenan and Sarah Browne, Caoimhe Murphy and Jan Browne and Doireann Sloyan and Jenna Raggett also performed very well. The coach was Jimmy Bolger.

CLUB MIXED: The draw sheet for names for the club mixed is on the notice board. Those interested should place their names on the sheet .and pay the entry fee of €5 per player behind the bar. The draw for the matchplay stages will be on May 4.

If somebody wishes to play and does not have a partner let the office know and they will be paired off.

MEN’S SCRATCH: The draw sheet for the men’s Scratch matchplay has been made. The first round is due for completion by April 30. The first round of the men’s club fourball must be played by April 25; the first round of the men’s singles by May 23.

Those on top of the draws are responsible for arranging the match.

INTER CLUB: The ladies Minor Cup played Gowran in Callan on Thursday and were 3-2 victors. Barbara Teehan won 2 and 1; Helen Butler 4 and 3; Ger O’Connor 2 and 1. Catherine Leahy lost 2 and 1; Lucy Yeates lost 4 and 3.

The junior foursomes will take on Mt Wolseley in Carlow on Saturday (2.30pm). Team - Dervilla O’Byrne and Margaret McCreery; Marian Woods and Jacintha Culliton; Bridget Norwood and Ann Widger. The reserves are Kathleen Gaffney and Ella Dunphy.

The team is managed by Paula Bradbury and Ann Greaney.

MEN’S INTER CLUB: The men’s Barton Cup team (foursomes max handicap combination 14) had a good win over Seafield on Friday. The team had a home draw with three of the five matches in Kilkenny. The team won by 3½ to 1½.

In Seafiled, Brian Crowdle and Pat Collins won on the 14th. Luke Kelly and Larry Carroll won on the 16th.

At home, Brendan Hogan and Padraig Keegan were three up early on but pegged back to all square before winning on the 17th. Anthony Cleere and Kieran Hoban birdied the 16th to go one up before being called in.

In the third match Kieran Wall and John Byrne were one down playing the 16th when called in. The team have two wins at this stage. They face New Ross away in the next round. The team is managed by Mark Grant and Sean Boland.

The Duggan Cup team (fouromses over 50 years of age) managed by Pat Hickey and Liam Cody lost to Callan on Saturday at home. Pat Walsh and Martin Duggan fought back from four down at one stage before losing on the 18th.

John Marnell and Gus Carey were looking like going one up on 17th when called in and Pat Collins and John Burke lost on the 15th. In Callan, Eugene Deegan and John Geoghegan won on the 17th and Leo Byrne and Pat Kearns lost on the 18th.

The Provincial Towns Cup team (9 matches singles off 9 handicap) managed by Frank Dalton and Seamus Rochford take on Waterford on Saturday (1.45pm) with five matches in Waterford and four in Kilkenny.

At home - Derek Shelley, Maurice Nolan, Kieran Hoban, John Byrne; away - James Bateman, Eugene Deegan, Aidan Brennan, Rob O’Shea and Mark Grant. Reserves - Aidan Phelan, Nigel Skehan, Larry Carroll, Des Woods and John Burke.

REPAIRS: The club thanked those who turned up last week for the divot repair session. All the par 3 tee boxes and all fairways have had been done at this stage.

There is a box with divot mix on all the par 3s’. The club requested members to use this if they take a divot when playing. Most times players are waiting on par 3s’ so if you see some unrepaired divots use the mix on a repair.

The next repair session will be Monday (7pm).

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL: Members are reminded that the final date for payment of annual subs has passed.

GUI AND ILGU CARDS: The new GUI and ILGU cards for ladies and gents have arrived. Call to the office to collect.

SOCIAL: The Social Committee have postponed the table quiz which was to be held in the club on Friday. It will be reschedule later in the year. They are now running a mixed social golf competition on Friday. Sign in at 5.45 for shotgun start at 6pm.
