Gallery: Festival fun at Sheep Shearing in Graignamanagh

Third annual event at Cushendale Woolen Mill

The now-annual Sheep Shearing Festival in Graignamanagh was a great success, last Saturday. Organised and hosted by Cushendale Woolen Mills, the event is getting bigger and better every year.

With Cushendale’s own Galway Sheep herd centre stage, the day was also enjoyed by everyone who came along to enjoy the music and family entertainment - including block printing with Workhouse Union, art with Jamie Dunne and music from Patrick Brooks and Killian Walsh.

Galway Sheep are Ireland’s only indigenous breed, favoured for their wool. The thick, high quality wool is perfect for processing into yarns and textiles and is the wool of choice at Cushendale. The wool from Saturday will be cleaned, dyed and woven into blankets in Graignamanagh.

Now in its third year, the first festival, in 2023, was the first time sheep shearing had taken place in the town for a generation and brought back many memories for the older local residents. Click NEXT to scroll through all the photographs from the day, taken by photographer Harry Reid.
