Cois Nore’s ‘Kilkenny to Kilkenny’ fundraiser was recently held at the Discovery Park, Castlecomer.
The fundraising event was also a celebration of the first anniversary of the Cois Nore weekly outreach service in Castlecomer.
The event was well attended by people from the Castlecomer community and surrounding areas. The event brought people of all ages together to help Cois Nore’s Canice the Cat mascot to move a little further in his virtual journey across the Atlantic to Kilkenny Minnesota in the USA.
“There was a great atmosphere, and it was great to see families gathered to support Cois Nore’s ‘Kilkenny to Kilkenny’ fundraising initiative and to celebrate the first anniversary of Cois Nore’s presence in Castlecomer through its outreach service,” said Cois Nore Outreach worker Aileen McInerney.
“Participants completed the 5km circuit and enjoyed snacks and refreshments in the Elf Village of the Discovery Park. We really appreciate the local sponsors of the event — the Avalon Hotel in Castlecomer, and the local solicitors Poe Kiely Hogan and Lanigan.

Cois Nore Fundraiser Sheila Murphy said the event would not have been possible without the support of the Discovery Park and the Kilkenny Lions Club.
“The Kilkenny to Kilkenny fundraiser is a virtual walk by Canice the Cat from Kilkenny, Ireland to Kilkenny, Minnesota,” she said. “His progress can be tracked online through our website. The kilometres walked by everyone today will move him several kilometres nearer to his final destination.
“He is well on his way but still needs help to complete his journey, so every kilometre helps. We are delighted that groups, clubs and individuals have come forward to plan events like this.
“Any activity that can cover 5km or more is acceptable. People can simply sign up on our website coisnore.ie or give us a call for more information. We have been supported by people doing everything from walking and cycling to rowing.”
