Huge crowds gathered in Gowran Park for Thyestes Day last January. The landmark day in the Kilkenny sporting calendar delivered yet again with the event never failing to provide quality entertainment on and off the track.
Crowds arrived early to enjoy some of the music and hospitality, and there were plenty of locals celebrating in the early races with the likes of Coral River and Rocky's Diamond landing big wins. Nick Rockett with Paul Townend on board triumphed in the main event, the Goffs Thyestes Chase. The 3/1 shot was a delight for the home crowd, giving Willie Mullins his tenth winner in the race.
There was a bit of a chill in the wind, but the rain held off and the sun even peaked out on occasion, those in attendance aware of the Red weather warning due to come into effect the following day. Photographer Vicky Comerford was at the races to capture all the glamour and action for the race that stops a county
Music and entertainment continued long into the evening for some, capping off another fantastic day out at Gowran. Pictures by Vicky Comerford.
